Why did you pick hockey?

“I picked hockey because I love to skate, and be on the ice.”

Favourite part of the sport?

“Scoring is definitly my favourite part of the game.”

Who is the biggest part in helping you make it this far?

“I would definitely have to say my dad!”

Typical Days Schedule:

“I wake up at 6:30 a.m and am on the bus by 7:15 a.m. I get to school by 8:00 a.m, and am on the ice by 8:30 a.m. I have my regular school classes throughout day, then back on the bus at 4:00 p.m. I get home by 5:00 p.m, have practice 2-3 nights per week & 2-3 games per week.”

Meal prep/menu:

“I eat three big meals a day, with snacks here and there. My meals contain lots of protein, veggies and carbs.”

Workout Routine/ Schedule:

“I am on the ice every day except Friday. I also have off ice workouts everyday.”

Hockey Schedule (for the week):

“I have hockey at school everyday except Friday. Tuesday nights I have practice. Thursdays are game nights. Saturday and Sunday I also have practice. All practices are about 2 hours long (both on & off ice).”

What is your role in yours son’s hockey life?

  • Drive him to practices (3 times/wk)
  • Drive him to games (1-2 times/wk)
  • Unpack & re-pack his hockey bag (daily)
  • Wash his hockey equipment/jersey’s/work out gear 3 times/wk
  • Prep all meals – ensure nutritious meals/heavy protein before practices & games
  • Get skates sharpened 1/wk
  • Re-tape hockey sticks (daily)
  • Stay on top of hockey schedule/events/extra curricular activities related to hockey
  • Select, participate & travel to hockey tournaments (4-5/year)
  • Buy/replace hockey equipment throughout the year

When did you know your son would make something of the sport?

“His first game – Cam was the biggest and best skater on the ice and got nine goals. He was a very skilled and a fast skater. He was the biggest player on his team (always has been).”

Cost of Equipment:

  • Skates $750-$850
  • Full body equipment (shoulder pads, shin pads, helmet, gloves, sticks etc) $1500 – $1600
  • Sticks $350 each, hr goes through approximately 3-4 per season

“We have roughly paid almost $30,000 in equipment throughout the years.”

Equipment replacement:

  • Skates – annually
